Parents Visit (pics # 3)

Debbie and Ashley in front of the Mosque in the village of Ende.

Always a good view in Dogon Country.

Visiting the ruins of the Tellum near the village of Ende.

Hiking up to the cliffs of Bandiagara.

Our friends in the courtyard of Chez Ali

This guy tried to attack Debbie but she got away.

Puzzle time...Ashley didn't finish.

Snack time...Sue brought seven pounds of cheese...

Our village threw a big dance for Debbie, Sue and Jerry.

Debbie teaching line dancing to the kids in village (Ashley and Sue are helping)

Kaja gave Sue and Debbie a bowl of peanuts as a gift.

Kalibombo at sunset.

Painting a world map on the wall of the school in our village so the children can learn geography with a nice visual aid.

Gotta love that smile.

We visited the guys in our village who are making dogon cloth.

Fascinating to watch these guys work with these hand made looms.

Umar pumping some water to help with the cloths washing process.

The Malian clothes dryer.

Sue learning how much she likes a washing machine.

A few more pictures of washing clothes in village.

Celebrating Jerry's birthday at the "Cheyennes" of Bamako (The Relax)

I forgot to put pictures of Jerry's 62nd Birthday party, his first in Africa.

  1. Hi Joe, Ashley, and Parents,

"W0W" I can't believe how many pictures there are this time. Where do I begin, there are 22 pictures,Yes I counted them. Thanks for sharing this big adventure, this way I feel apart of it in a small way. All the walking and hiking looks fun but tiring at the same time. I would enjoy the weather wright now, compared to this cold stuff in Appleton. Puzzle time, eating cheese and dancing what a party!!!!! Then you have all the peanutes you can eat. Dad are you having a peanut party!!!! You guys sure like to party alot:) Ashley, that is really cool how you draw and paint the world map. That's the best way to learn your geography. Mom, I can't forget about you, it looks like your having a blast dancing. Seems like your moving and groving along. The guys making dogon cloth, with hand made looms, is very fascinating. It would be very interesting to see them at work. The clothes washing process does seem a little tricky and alot of work. Mom I can see that from your experience, that puzzled look on your face. How is the "Cheyennes" in Bamako!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes when I came across this picture. That is funny:) Oh, before I forget, your friends in the courtyard of "Chez Ali", seem a little stiff:) Can you tell them to loosen up a little. ..
    ()did you get my joke!

Have fun and enjoy the rest of your time together. Miss you all and you too Debbie.

    Love
    Jody,Ben and Anna

  4. Merry Christmas Joe and Ash! I am so glad you got to visit with your parents during this holiday season, or should I say "Holy Days" as I was informed numerous times by Eagle Forum members years ago! LOL! My question is did Ash make the African dresses for your moms or "had them made" meaning someone else made them? If you are working up your sewing skillz, Ash, you will have to come help me. I've only done one quilt since you left and absolutely no clothes! Any clothing I would sew would like like that shirt Denise tried to make for Theo on the Cosby Show. LOL!

Anyway--I just emailed with Joanna! I saw her email on my church e-bulletin board about housing and was like, "What?! A Wollersheim in DC! I remember that name!" Hopefully we will meet up and hang out. I need a Wollerhseim fix after all these months/years!

Ash--I got a Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas from my parents. Awesome! Wish you were here to bake some cookies! Love you both!

    Jess
